...this weekend from getting ready for my upcoming solo show to head up to Newport, RI for the Newport Folk Festival. Somehow, this one trip turned out to be a completely magical time...you know when everything flows and good luck is around every corner. I'll post pics soon, but I wanted to share some of the festival with you! It was one of the most relaxing and lovely music festivals I've ever been too. It rained the first day, which just added to the magic of the experience. Then Sunday was breezy and beautiful. All of that plus the history of the festival (Dylan going electric and all that) and the seaside New England location with all the boats and clouds just made it really really special.
I saw so many amazing acts...Jim James solo (which I have seen several times in addition to seeing My Morning Jacket and which always feels like something historical and truly magical is happening right in front of you), Gillian Welch (who I have wanted to see live for years and who was just as amazing as I always hoped she would be), Steve Earle, She and Him, Levon Helm....they were all great . Luckily NPR was there recording all the sets and you can hear them here. I highly recommend listening to the Jim James set ,the Gillian Welch set and the Steve Earle set. Seriously, I can't express how great the whole thing was. I am listening to the Jim James set right now and I just can't believe how lucky I was to experience something so beautiful...if you ever get a chance to go to this festival...go!!!

Little Bits...
So, this is how I work. I usually have around 3 to 8 paintings going at once. I tend to get burned out on those from time to time, so during break time from working on my main paintings, I often get little lightning bolts of inspirado that turn into little paintings or drawings or whatevers. Sometimes I'll turn these into little series or something bigger and sometimes, I'll just end of with little bits of artiness laying around the studio. I really love all of them because they are not premeditated. They are completely spontaneous and natural....love em! So now that I am finishing up a half year's worth of work for my upcoming solo show, I am gathering these little bits and deciding what to use and what to leave....here are some that made the cut!

That last drawing will hopefully be in a zine that I want to make.
I have some more work to do on some final paintings for the show, then hopefully, I'll have time for a little preview of the show...we'll have to see!

This Weekend!
Hey all! Miss Faythe Levine (of Paperboat boutique, amongst many other things!) has organized a silent auction for this coming Saturday (July 19). She has gotten together with the awesome peeps at Poketo to put this event together and raise funds for her indie craft documentary, Handmade Nation! She has been working on this film for the few years I've known her and it is going to be so great! I can't wait to see the finished product. She spent an entire year traveling the country, documenting craft fairs and crafters themselves...This film is going to be the quintessential exploration of the DIY uprising and it deserves all of our support. Yay! BTW, that awesome postcard above was created specially by Kate Bingaman-Burt. She makes work that is very refreshing and interesting. I like her.
So, if you are in the LA area, check out the silent auction this Saturday! I have work in it as does Kelly Lynn Jones, Keith Shore, Jen Corace....the list goes on.
So, peoples, go here for all the info.
And check out the trailer for the documentary!

Well.....
It's been a while. I have been laying low. I have much much much work to do (for a solo show in sept!) and a pup to take care of, so I am just focusing on those things and not much else. I feel very much my life is just filled to capacity. I have to say that this here blog will probably come under more neglet over the next few months, but what can you do? I will come back when I can, but for now here are a few pics that sum up my life right now....

Can you believe this dog?

such a beauty

sorting through my old frames...deciding which to use

making a mess
Honestly, I cannot complain. Aside from the constant fear that I will not produce as much quality work as I would like (a fear that I will always have when preparing for a show...yet it never actually comes true.), all really is well and I am enjoying the simplicity of my current job title....artist & puppy mama...that's it! Not bad right?

A Squirel So Shiny!
I want to thank Ms. Jessica Goldfond for putting my mini print set up for sale at her shop, The Shiny Squirel! It's a destination for all things lovely, so be sure to do some browsing while you're there. I particularly like this print by Julianna Swaney!
And now, before I go, I have to share some of my #1 pup's awesomeness with you all. Here now, for your viewing enjoyment is Obi Wan Kenobi (I know he looks like an old man with all those wrinkles, but I swear, he's just a 4 month old puppy!)

My trip
So, I got back from my New Orleans trip almost a month ago, but with the arrival of the new pup and trying to get back into work mode, I have totally slacked on getting all the collective pics together and online.....until now! You can actually see the whole group here. But to save some time and space on the old bloggy blog, here are some highlights:

As always, amazing buildings to fall in love with.

The French Quarter at night is always spooky and beautiful.

Biegnets and iced coffee.

The festival was great.

even though there was some rain.

But there were still plenty of parades...because that's just how NOLA gets down!

and the rain cleared up just in time for Stevie Wonder!

We rode the street car here. Where I had one of the best meals of my life.

Did some dancing at Tipitinas:

(Tipitinas)

Where we met some 20 year Jazz Fest veterans!

It's always great to get the crew together and head down there.

Until next time (which will hopefully be next year!) stay amazing New Orleans!
